FAQs
Medical Preparation & Insurance
It is required to have a physical exam prior to participation. If you have any significant or chronic health condition, you must inform the guide.
Do not hide a medical condition because you are worried it might affect your participation. The guide needs accurate information to make safe decisions.
Any medical information disclosed to the expedition team will be treated as strictly confidential and will not be shared beyond those who need it for your safety.
Insurance — absolutely mandatory
You must have an insurance specifically covering high-altitude mountaineering at Aconcagua (ex.:Global Rescue), including search and rescue and helicopter evacuation. Standard travel insurance often excludes mountaineering above certain altitudes.
Nutrition
In the weeks before the expedition, focus on a healthy, protein-rich and nutrient-dense diet. Aim for adequate protein at every meal, plenty of complex carbohydrates for endurance, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables, and good hydration. Avoid arriving depleted from aggressive dieting or weight loss. On the mountain, your body will need substantial energy to recover, acclimatize and perform at altitude.
Cardio & Endurance
Build a strong aerobic base before the expedition. Running, cycling, swimming, rowing, stair climbing and long uphill hikes are all useful. The goal is not speed — it is the ability to move steadily for many hours, day after day.
Include strength training, especially for your legs, glutes, core and back.
Altitude Experience
Previous experience at 5,000 m / 16,400 ft or higher is an advantage. If you have the opportunity to do a high-altitude expedition before Aconcagua, it can help you understand how your body responds to altitude and what acclimatization feels like. However, it is not a deal breaker for Aconcagua.
